Arthur Tate is a jazz singer on the Jazz and Such Record label.  He was born in 1970.  He was always trying to sing, but his voice sounded horrible until he turned 16 and his voice changed.  After his voice changed, he had a wonderful melodic baritone voice.

Girls loved to hear Arthur talk. Once while he was talking to a group of girls, he burst into a song. The girls screamed and clamored over him.  He entered a talent show at his school and was a success.

A music teacher at his high school asked Arthur to stop by the music room after school.  Arthur did. The music teacher, Benjamin Long, talked to Arthur and told him that his voice would sound good if he sung jazz. Arthur looked at Mr. Long as if he were crazy. Mr. Long gave Arthur some cassettes of Jazz singers.  Arthur promised to listen to the tapes and went on his way.

It had been two or more weeks and Arthur still had not listened to the tapes. Mr. Long asked for the tapes back. He knew that Arthur had not listened to the tapes. Arthur told Mr. Long that he would bring the tapes back on the next day.

Arthur went home.  He was about to throw the tapes in his bag, but he put one of the tapes in to his stereo and listened to it.  He loved the music. He listened to all of the tapes that night. After that, Arthur became a big jazz music enthusiast.

After Arthur graduated from high school, Mr. Long became Arthur's manager. Arthur began singing everywhere. Mr. Long knew a few people who owned clubs. He got Arthur booked at the clubs. Mr. Long had Arthur singing somewhere every weekend.  Arthur was becoming very popular on the club scene. He had been singing in the clubs with a lot of success for a year.  His parents wanted him to go to college, even if it was a community college. Arthur agreed. He took two years off and went to the Duke School of Arts. This destroyed the relationship Arthur had with Mr. Long.  Mr. Long thought Arthur was ready for a music career. After Arthur graduated from college, he tried to get in contact with Mr. Long, but Mr. Long did not want to speak to Arthur.

Arthur was without a manager and without direction.  He tried to get gigs on his own, but he was having a hard time. He was about to give up. He heard about a jazz festival in Fort Derrick. Arthur traveled to Fort Derrick. He made up his mind that he was going to find a manager or a get a record deal while in Fort Derrick.

In Fort Derrick, Arthur wasn't having much success.  He was about to go home when he overheard someone talking about an amateur contest at a jazz club in the city. He went to the club and signed up for the contest.  He sung at the contest and won second place.  He also caught the  of a representative from Oak Park Management.

Arthur set up a meeting with Oak Park Management.  Arthur had a manger, Tony Sindelar, after talking to several of the managers at Oak Park Management.

In 1993, Arthur signed with Jazz and Such Record.  He released his first CD in 1995.  The CD featured a song by Denise Jamison entitled, "In Our Children's Heart." This song was very popular and successful. The CD also featured songs written by Configuration and Brilliant the Rapper.

Arthur has released two other CDs on the Jazz and Such Record label.
